HARD TIMES TOKENS

Hard time tokens were minted privately from 1834 to 1844 to alleviate the shortage of small coinage.  The fit into two categories, those which comment on the fight between President Andrew Jackson and those that advertise a store.  Hard times tokens are often attributed to a Low number
